The Jack Koczela Memorial Charity Golf Tournament was established in 2024 to honor the legacy of DC Batter Up! co-founder Jack Koczela, who passed away in November 2022 after a decade-long battle with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare cancer. The inaugural tournament brought together over 70 golfers from all walks of Jack's life - including many of his old golfing buddies and colleagues in the real estate industry where his son followed his footsteps - to support DC Batter Up! and its Koczela College Scholarship Program. In its first year, the tournament far exceeded expectations, raising over $10,000 for the Scholarship Program, which supports baseball and softball student-athletes in Washington D.C. pursuing higher education. Building on this success, the tournament will become an annual tradition, held each year on the Thursday before Father's Day at Little Bennett Golf Course, one of Jack's favorite local courses. His spirit of fostering leadership and success in young people lives on through this meaningful day of golf and giving.
